Interweb at Sebring

Austin and I came to Sebring this weekend to install some networking stuff here at the track. We started around noon, and finished about 7pm. During that time, we did three physical drops, mounted a omni-directional antenna outside, and installed the wireless access point I configured the last time I was here.

The physical drops weren't that bad, but I'm not a big fan of digging around in insulation. Thankfully Austin went up on the ladder to drop the glow sticks down. I mainly did the easier bits of feeding the cable, installing the wall plated, jack sand things like that. He was the one who climbed up the side of the building to install the outside antenna.

This has been a work in progress for quite some time now, and I'm glad its finally 95% done. The WAP covers the campground well, and several parts of the paddock. It doesn't extend a useful signal as far as we would like, but there are other ways to deal with that. I think if I loaded some non-stock firmware to the WAP54G, we could extend the signal further into the 12 hour paddock, but it might suffer a bit in the campground. For the moment, we're going to leave things alone, and see where that gets us.

We will be coming back to Venice tomorrow. This weekend is the Viper Days, and there really isn't much for us to do. In the morning after everyone has left to do their thing, we'll prep the motor home and take off. I'll be driving his car home, and who knows what will happen from there.
